You will be greeted at the airport by your guides and transferred to your lodge.  Here you will be received by local Tanzanian’s and enjoy relaxing accommodations after your long day(s) of travel.

On this day via serengeti migration best time itinerary, we will drive from Arusha to camp site/lodge for lunch passing by a small town called Mto Wa Mbu that lies beside the Great Rift Valley and Manyara National Park. Mto Wa Mbu is a small town but has more than 120 tribes living in the same area. The majority are Maasai. In the evening, if you wish, you could do a coffee and farm tour within the lodge that takes about 2 hours.

After breakfast, you will continue into the 600-meter-deep unbroken caldera, and you will have a moment to take in the fantastic, awe-inspiring views of the collapsed volcano. Then you will descend the caldera for a game drive. Over 25,000 mammals such as spotted hyenas and the “Big Five” – elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and lion are part of them. You will enjoy lunch at a picnic spot inside the crater.   After lunch, you will continue the game drive and in the afternoon drive back for overnight and get prepared for the Serengeti Migration Best Time next day trip.

The Ndutu calving area in the southern stretches of the Serengeti (Tanzania) is renowned for being one of the great natural wonders of Africa. It is a growing point for the great wildebeest migration, spanning a majestic landscape that transcends time. This region is the genesis of a unique wildlife phenomenon, an annual celebration of life. Can you imagine two million white-bearded wildebeests, or brindled gnu, giving birth to 400,000 calves within a period of three to four weeks? Nothing on earth compares to this spectacle. That is approximately 8000 baby wildebeest born each day.

After the breakfast plates have been cleared, you will travel onward to the Serengeti National Park, which you will reach by mid-day. The Serengeti National Park is among the largest parks in Tanzania with diverse landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannahs, and mountains. Here the biggest wildebeest and zebra migrations take place and you will have the opportunity to witness thousands of animals in their search for nourishment.

Today, plan for a full-day game drive at Serengeti National Park.  We will start early in the morning after breakfast since it is when most of the cats are active. Serengeti is well known for being the home of carnivores due to the topography - the kopjes (rock formations), endless plains, and the Mara‐Grumeti ecosystem which facilitates interaction with prey.  Here you will witness the famous annual wildebeest migration too!  After the early morning game drive, we will get back for a hot lunch and have a short break.   Thereafter after we will proceed with the game drive until the evening, then get back for dinner at the Camp.

Early morning you will set out on another game drive in the Serengeti before continuing towards the Oldupai Gorge. The site is significant in showing the increasing developmental and social complexities in the earliest humans (hominids).  The collecting of tools and animal remains in a central area is evidence of developing social interaction and communal activity. All these factors indicate an increase in cognitive capacities at the beginning of the period of hominids transitioning to hominins—that is, to human—form and behavior.

Today the group divides – you will either go to the airport or participate in the add-on adventure.  If you are flying out, after breakfast we drive to Arusha to go to the JRO airport.  If you have enough time before your flight, your guides will take you to the Cultural Heritage Museum so you can have lunch at the museum restaurant.  For folks with the add-on, you will head to Tarangire.

After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide with lunch boxes and start a 1hour drive to Tarangire National Park. With its savannah, seasonal swamps, and upside-down trees, it is well known for its large number of elephant herds. There are approximately 4000 elephants here!   After an extensive game drive, you will leave the park and travel to Lake Burunge for your overnight at Burunge Tented Camp.  You will see elephants just off the pavilion of this amazing lodge at any given time of day.

After breakfast, we drive back to Arusha where your guide will take you to JRO.  If you have enough time before your flight, your guide will take you to the Cultural Heritage Museum so you can have lunch at the museum restaurant.
